Minutes for the April 11, 2006 Meeting

Location: Yamashiro Restaurant, Conference Room.

1. A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

2. The minutes for the October 11 meeting were approved by unanimous voice vote.

3. Update on current Neighborhood Council affairs.
3.a. Outreach is a top priority. Big event planned for June 1.
3.b. Coyote warning signs may become available if stakeholders are concerned for their pets.
3.c. The Neighborhood Council Congress appears to have lost a little bit of steam (follow-up from last meeting).
3.d. Neighboring Area 5 seems to share many of Area 4’s concerns. Area 4 chair should occasionally attend an Area 5 meeting.
3.e. Update on the LADWP rate hikes. An independent commission recommends that the rates should be raised. LADWP will inform the public in meetings t.b.a.

4. Lively discussion of permit and construction activity, including the 6683 Franklin/Las Palmas condos (scaled back with more landscaping and a partially wood-clad facade); 1800 N Highland (no windows will be boarded up and the lights will go out at midnight); the 1021 N Highland motel (permit to remodel); and the street corrections at the intersection of Franklin and Highland (the NW corner where the church is located will not be altered, yet the backup from cars turning west onto Franklin is the cause of the cut-through traffic on Camrose).

5. Discussion of the proposed Hollywood Community Plan. HHWNC has passed a motion that density should not be increased in the Highland/Franklin corridor. Area 4 very much shares this concern. There may be an HHWNC meeting w/Mary Richardson on 04/20. Several stakeholders plan to attend.

6. Update on efforts to get the streets paved, starting with Glencoe. The Hollywood Heights Association (residents association) is active in this. Getting the Neighborhood Council involved may lead to everybody else wanting their street repaved, which takes the focus off of our area. Decision to leave the issue to the residents’ association.

7. During public comment, it was pointed out that HHWNC has pledged to support the Hollywood Heights Association’s emergency preparedness event with $150 but no money has been received to date.

8. As there was no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

Minutes prepared by Conrad Schoeffter.
