Starting May 1, 2010 U.S. Census Takers will be out knocking on doors of those who have not yet returned their U.S. Census form.

The Better Business Bureau wants to remind consumers to be watchful of criminals posing as Census Bureau officials. Responding to the census is mandatory but people should be aware of what they cannot be asked, such as social security numbers, bank accounts and credit card information.
The only questions Census Bureau officials are authorized to ask, by mail or in person, are name, gender, race, ethnicity, relationships to others in the household and whether you own or rent your home. Also, the Census Bureau never contacts citizens by e-mail or asks for donations and consumers should be especially cautious if contacted after dark.
