Members of the Hollywood Hills West Neighborhood Council joined Principal Ken Urbina at Gardner Street Elementary School on Saturday, October 25, 2008 to help advance his "Gardnerville Goes Green" campaign. Twentyfive parents, students, teachers and staff volunteered their afternoon to transform the dismal asphalt in one common area to a brightly colored, playful and stimulating work of art.

The next phase of this multi-tiered project will happen on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 when the Children's Nature Institute arrives with native plant specimens for the children to plant around the trees in this particular area. Mary Rodriguez, Education Deputy for Councilman Tom LaBonge, stopped by to check the progress. Mary has been instrumental in the project. HHWNC board members will participate to finish painting the asphalt in the main recess area next month. Stay tuned for details and please join us!
