SUMMARY:Earthquake Safety - Retrofitting Grants - Until May 31st
DESCRIPTION:www.EarthquakeSoftStory.com \nFrom: Senator Anthony J. Portantino\nSenator\, 25th District \nDear Friends and Neighbors\, \nIn my role with the Seismic Safety Commission\, it’s part of our mandate to provide the public with cost-effective recommendations to reduce earthquake losses and speed recovery. That’s why I’m getting the word out about the California Residential Mitigation Program’s new Earthquake Soft Story Program. \nBetween now and May 31\, 2023\, qualified homeowners in Pasadena and Los Angeles can apply for grants up to $13\,000 to strengthen their soft-story homes against earthquake damage. \nSoft-story homes that may qualify for this pilot program have one floor of living space built above a garage. These structures are vulnerable to damage because they may not be able to withstand the lateral movement from earthquake shaking. Houses with this condition may be prone to partial or full collapse during an earthquake. \nMaking a soft-story home more resistant to earthquake damage can be as straightforward as having a licensed contractor install new plywood sheathing or steel reinforcements on each side of the garage door and bracing the perimeter walls of the garage. \nEligible homeowners can apply for retrofit funding at www.EarthquakeSoftStory.com. Here you can also find detailed program information and select from a list of FEMA-trained\, California licensed general contractors. Participating homeowners will be selected through a random drawing and notified via email if they have been selected or if they have been placed on the waitlist\, after registration closes. \nIn California\, earthquakes are not a matter of if\, but when. The more you can be prepared in advance\, the better your outcome will be. I strongly encourage all eligible homeowners to apply for this grant funding.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Day at LAFD Station 76\, May 19\, 2024 - 9 am to 1pm
DESCRIPTION:Dear HHWNC Community\,\n\n \nThe LAFD Station 76 committee has completed terracing the backyard area of 76s and done an initial planting of fruit trees\, vegetables and created a patio and fire pit area for the crew to enjoy outdoor meals and meetings\, and will be having an outdoor open house\, hopefully in June\, if the rain finally stops! The front yard\, as well as the back area\,  needed gopher removal and weeding. We also removed all the grass and replaced with decomposed granite and xeroscape including olive trees and agave in the front yard. The neighbor assisted by removing a rubber tree that was dying and falling towards 76s. So for the final stage we need volunteers to do some weeding and planting of more fruit trees.  We have a volunteer day planned for May 19th and would like to ask that you request your board and your community for volunteers. We likely need 10. I will be doing the same with HUNC for a June date for the front yard\, which they helped fund.\n\nIf you have time please let me know when you would like to visit the station\, it is a complete transformation for less than $70\,000 which was raised with the community\, City\, County\, HOAs\, Universal\, and our generous NCs.  I am very proud of how beautiful it looks.\n\nBest\,\nSheila Irani

SUMMARY:You're Invited! Earthquake Resiliency with CRMP - Webinar for City Leadership - Wed Oct. 23\, 2:00pm-3:00pm
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n  \nGreetings Members of the Hollywood Hills West Neighborhood Council\, \n  \nOn Wednesday\, October 23 from 2:00pm-3:00pm\, representatives from California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP) will host a specialized webinar tailored for City and County leadership. The webinar will focus on both immediate and future grant opportunities available to owners of single-family residential buildings in your community who wish to retrofit their houses to mitigate against earthquake damage. We would be delighted to have you join us for this informative session. \n  \nAs part of this webinar\, the CRMP team will discuss the October 15 launch of the Earthquake Soft-Story (ESS) grant program\, which helps homeowners lessen potential damage to their homes during an earthquake. ESS offers up to $13\,000 toward a code-compliant seismic retrofit for houses that qualify. You are invited because homeowners in one or more ZIP Codes within your constituency area are eligible for this grant opportunity. A full list of eligible zip codes can be found under the ESS section of this webpage. \n  \nWe are reaching out because your community has many homes with a soft-story condition that are potentially vulnerable to damage during an earthquake. Homeowners often don’t apply for grants simply due to lack of awareness of their increased vulnerability or availability of financial assistance through our programs. \n  \nWe hope that through this webinar\, we can provide you with valuable information to increase resilience in your community. \n  \nThere is no need to register for this webinar. To join\, simply follow the options below: \nZOOM VIDEO: \nREMOTE ACCESS*: \nBy Computer: Open Zoom App\, or navigate to www.zoom.com  \nEnter Meeting ID: 860 3572 3417 \nDirect Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86035723417 \n  \nBy Phone: 1 (669) 900-6833 \nEnter Meeting ID: 860 3572 3417 \n  \nIf you plan to join\, please respond to this email and we will send you a calendar invitation that will include all the relevant information. Furthermore\, if you have a colleague that you feel would benefit from this session\, please do not hesitate to share this email\, and encourage them to join us. \n  \nSincerely\, \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n  \nO: 916.448.2162     D: 916.498.7709     C: 530.400.2763 \nE: tvanderlist@ka-pow.com       W: www.ka-pow.com \n621 Capitol Mall Suite 1900 Sacramento\, CA 5814 \n
