Minutes for the October 11, 2005 Meeting

Location: Yamashiro Restaurant, Conference Room.

1. A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

2. The minutes for the April 5 meeting were approved by unanimous voice vote.

3. Update on current Neighborhood Council affairs.
3.a. Mayor’s budget day. Last time around, our main concerns were outvoted by other Neighborhood Councils. This time, a different procedure will be used but there is no guarantee of a better outcome.
3.b. Citywide Congress of Neighborhood Councils. This Congress could possibly dilute the influence of individual NCs.
3.c. Traffic. The mayor has stationed rush hour traffic cops at three intersections in our vicinity. The HHWNC has asked for the placement of radar speeding citation devices to reduce speeding.

4. Update on permit applications, including the Franklin/Las Palmas condos that are under fire from Whitley Heights; 1800 N Highland that is to be reskinned and covered with supergraphics; the empty lot in the SE corner of Franklin/Highland; the 1021 N Highland motel that was to become a Hampton Inn; and the 1633 N La Brea mixed-use development.

5. Update on the proposed Griffith Park master plan. Tom LaBonge opposes overdevelopment of the park. HHWNC requests additional off-leash dog walking areas.

6. Information about the upcoming NC election and successful call for candidates (but not successful for volunteers).

7. As there was no public comment and no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

Minutes prepared by Conrad Schoeffter.
