Meeting Minutes: Monday, January 12, 2004

Members Present: Jeff Rouze, Chair, Conrad Schoeffer, Steve Tronson, and John Ehretz, Colleen Wharton-

Location: Toluca Lake Sports and Tennis Club, Second Floor Conference Room

A quorum being present, Steve Tronson, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. The Chair arrived 30 minutes late.

Minutes: The minutes of the November 3, 2003 meeting were reviewed and approved.

Discussion of the Hollywood Master Plan: A discussion of the proposed master plan for Hollywood was begun. The Urban Land Institute panel had proposed in 2000 that a Master Plan be prepared to guide and encourage quality development in Hollywood. The recommendation was never pursued due to the high cost estimate. Other cities in California have prepared master plans for their downtown areas, such as San Jose and San Diego. These plans then become the blueprint for the development effort. The master plans have the benefit of professional design and planning participation that guides the public input to a supportable conclusion. Hollywood seems to be a natural for such a professionally prepared plan. It was concluded that the Chair should explore inviting a CRA representative to attend a future meeting.

Discussion of Parking Shuttle: The committee members discussed a proposal from a Hollywood Chamber subcommittee that has brought up the issue of a parking shuttle to connect the large parking structures with the entertainment areas. The idea is to connect the Hollywood and Highland parking structure (DOT) and the Cinerama Dome project (CRA) with nightclubs and restaurants. It was observed that Hollywood already has a DASH shuttle that serves the subway stations and other parts of Hollywood. It was suggested that the DASH could be rerouted to provide this service at minimal new cost. There is a shuttle or trolley system that is sponsored by a rum distributor in an n East coast tourism area. It was suggested that the distributor be contacted.

Discussion of the Hollywood Design Charette: The Committee is still interested in pursuing a design charette for Hollywood Boulevard. It is not clear how to pursue this option. It has been suggested that the USC architecture program may be an appropriate organization to contact. The topic is being forwarded for future discussion.

Discussion of Runyon Canyon Parking Lot: The Committee is interested in reviewing the proposed Master Plan for Runyon Canyon to review the proposed elements and become more knowledgeable on the issues that seem to be so controversial to the neighborhood. It was requested that the Chair obtain a copy of the plan for the Committee to review.

New Business: There was no new business presented.

Future Meetings: It was agreed to meet on the second Monday of the month at the Toluca Lake Sports and Tennis Club at 6:30 p.m.

Public Comment: There was no public comment today.

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
