Meeting Minutes: May 10, 2004

Members Present: Jeff Rouze, Chair, Colleen Wharton, and John Ehretz

Location: Toluca Lake Sports and Tennis club, Second Floor Conference Room

A quorum being present, Chair Jeffrey Rouze, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Minutes: No minutes of previous meetings were available to review.

Discussion of the Vogue Theater Use: A brief discussion was held about the change in ownership of the Vogue Theater on Hollywood Boulevard and the proposed conversion to an event venue. The theater has been vacant for many years. The new owners are affiliated with Warner Brothers. The new uses if approved will be movie premieres, special party events, and private rentals. The Area 3 Committee has met with the owners to discuss conditions that would be agreeable to them. Parking is one of the problematic issues. Alcohol use and operation hours are other issues. The owners are seeking an alcohol permit and a cabaret permit. Jeff Rouze attended the Area 3 meeting to hear the presentation.

Gateway to Hollywood Project: The Gateway to Hollywood project is now underway again. Jeff Rouze has been selected as the HHWNC representative to the project. The Board of the HHWNC voted to give the Yucca Corridor Coalition $1,000 as reimbursement for costs. The major actions at the site have been the removal of the K-rail by the City of Los Angeles, the removal of the fence by the contractor, and the clean up of the ground by the Hollywood Beautification Team. Weekly meetings with the CD4 office and the Hollywood United Neighborhood Council have resulted in a new reduced scope for the project.

New Business: A video prepared by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco for a national bankers conference held at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood was viewed. This video features Jeffrey Rouze, Johnny Grant, and Eric Garcetti talking about the real Hollywood and its changes over the years. The Federal Reserve chose Hollywood for this conference due to its redevelopment success.
