About the Project
Metro’s position is that the Sunset Boulevard Bus Priority Lanes Project is an important step toward creating a safer, faster, and more dependable transit network in Los Angeles. The project focuses on a 4.3-mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard—from Vermont Avenue to Havenhurst Drive—and proposes adding bus priority lanes for Metro Line 2 on weekdays during peak travel hours.
Every day, 20,000 riders travel along this section of Sunset Boulevard. By adding bus priority lanes, Metro will help buses move more efficiently, improving service for riders while also benefiting the 111,000 residents and 56,000 jobs located within a 10-minute walk of the corridor.
Community Concerns
However, some community members have raised concerns about the elimination of one eastbound and one westbound traffic lane along Sunset Boulevard between Vermont Avenue and Havenhurst Drive, as well as the removal of on-street parking in this area. Residents and businesses worry these changes could increase congestion for drivers and make parking more difficult for visitors and customers.
We encourage all stakeholders to register for one of Metro’s upcoming Zoom meetings to share feedback and ensure their voices are heard. We also hope to have Metro present updates and address these concerns at our November 19 board meeting to promote transparency and provide the community with clear information about the project’s impacts.
